City celebrates 90th anniversary of Russia’s October Revolution

VietNamNet Bridge – HCM City this month will be host to Russian musical and dance performances as well as art exhibits and film openings to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Russia’s October Revolution.

Russian films, including Me Than Yeu (Beloved Mother), Tinh Yeu Va Chim Cau (Love and Pigeons), and San Ga Danh Cho Hai Nguoi (Railway Station for Two), will be shown at the Women’s Cultural House.

On November 7, the day that commemorates the October Revolution, the HCM City Orchestra and Ballet (HBSO) will give a special performance at the Opera House at 8pm. On the programme will be folk dances and songs, and excerpts from the ballet Sleeping Beauty.

Excerpts from the ballet Swan Lake and musical pieces will be included in a November 9 performance by the HBSO at 8pm.

At the HCM City Youth and Cultural House, an art exhibition called Dau An Nuoc Nga (Russian Impressions) features paintings about the country and people. The exhibit will close next Sunday.

Painter Tran Quan Ngoc, who graduated from the painting department of Lenin Pedagogy University in 1967, will show his work.

Ngoc has exhibited in Russia and Vietnam, and his paintings are in private collections in Russia, the US, France, Brazil, and Japan.

A special music programme took place at the HCM City Woman’s Cultural House, featuring Russian folk songs performed by People’s Artist Tran Hieu, Meritorious Artist Quang Ly, and singers Anh Bang and Bonneur Trinh on last Sunday.

Students from the HCM City Conservatory and dancers from the HBSO also performed.
