VietNamNet Bridge – A ceremony to cast a statue of Sakyamuni Buddha from the country's largest jade rock, which is 18 tons, will be held at Tung Van Pagoda in Vinh Tuong District, Vinh Phuc Province on Saturday. The statue will be a replica of the terra-cotta statue of Sakyamuni Buddha made nearly 300 years ago at Tung Van Pagoda. The large jade rock was found in Yen Bai Province which is famous for its precious stones. Tung Van Pagoda is one of the oldest pagodas in Vietnam built in the Hau Le Dynasty in the late seventeenth century. It preserves artifacts such as bronze bells and terra-cotta statues dating back 300 years. Different from other pagodas in the country, Tung Van Pagoda has hundreds of wood and stone pillars.
