The Japan traditional Kimekomi Doll Association opened its exhibition of Kimekomi dolls, honoured as Japan’s national craft, in Ho Chi Minh City on November 6.
As many as 2,300 types of Kimekomi dolls, including 2,000 types for girls and 70 types made in Vietnamese style are on display.
The four-day exhibition also sees the presence of 50 craftsmen from the Sachie doll association, who will give demonstrations on doll-making techniques.
The organisers will give away 2,000 mini dolls to visitors.
The Kimekomi doll craft dated back to the 18th century and the doll was named Japan’s national craft product in 1978, which symbolised the spiritual strength, confidence and the pride of the Japanese nation.
Kimekomi dolls were introduced to Vietnam in 2005 at an event that saw the participation of 100 craftsmen and the display of 400 dolls.
Ho Chi Minh City will play host to “Days of Pusan” on November 9-11 in a bid to bolster the friendship and all-around cooperation between the two cities.
